The Video Platform Offers Viewers Control to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that enables them to reduce the amount of AI-created media appearing in their timelines. This step comes as the company disclosed that it presently contains over 1 billion AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The update is in a pilot phase over the next few weeks before a global launch. This shift coincides with a surge in content created by AI, fueled by emerging content generation software.

The Broader AI Trend

It has been noted that approximately one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a competing service exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this material is considered mass-produced AI material, a phrase for poor-quality, mass-produced content that is often absurd or bizarre.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers enjoy content created using AI tools, from computer-generated images to informative clips, and we aim to offer the community the ability to see more or less of that, depending on their own choices,” commented a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The platform shared that there are now 1.3bn videos on its app identified as made with AI. Collectively, in excess of 100 million media items are submitted to the platform every day, making AI content a limited part of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Members will be in a position to limit or boost the volume of AI content they view by using the content preference feature in the platform and choosing “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that currently be modified under the setting cover current affairs, style, beauty, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

TikTok’s policies oblige creators to label convincing AI-generated content, and it bans dangerous deepfakes of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any realistic artificial content that is without a tag can be removed under its terms of service.

Additionally, the service will from now on apply an artificially created watermark to content made using its built-in AI features, or flagged by an cross-platform project for recognizing content made by AI. This action is aimed to stop users from seeking to evade the tagging system.

Educational Initiatives

The company is also launching a two million dollar AI literacy fund for professionals and groups to create informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will assist non-profit groups focused on teaching programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

TikTok has supported its moderation strategy, during debate over plans to lay off hundreds of review team members in Britain. TikTok is expected to cut 439 jobs in its trust and safety division in its British office, with trade unions and online safety experts expressing worry that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead explained that human moderation would remain essential, but AI can safeguard staff by filtering out the most harmful content prior to it gets reviewed by people. TikTok stated a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content seen by content reviewers over the past year due to intervention by its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to combine humans and technology to keep the platform safe,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s very important to minimize viewing of harmful content as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is proving valuable work at speed.”
