Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from that period of 2023.

The win also means he has won twenty-one titles at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
